From Idea to MVP in 6 Weeks: Our Battle-Tested Sprint Framework
Process

'Just ship an MVP' is advice that sounds simple and is maddeningly hard to execute. The challenge isn't building software — it's deciding what to not build. Every founder has a feature list that would take 18 months to ship. The MVP discipline is about identifying the 20% that proves the value hypothesis.

Weeks 1–2: Discovery Sprint

  • User story mapping: Write every user story in 'As a [user], I want to [action] so that [outcome]' format. Then ruthlessly mark each as 'MVP', 'v1.1', or 'post-launch.'
  • Tech stack decision: Document the choice and the rationale. The worst projects we've inherited have undocumented tech decisions that paint the team into corners. One page, written down.
  • Wireframes (not mockups): Low-fidelity wireframes for every core user flow. The goal is to identify flow problems before they become code problems.
  • Risk log: Write down the three things most likely to sink this project. Surface risks early.

Weeks 3–4: Core Build

This is where most MVPs go wrong. Scope creep disguised as 'just one more thing' is the leading cause of blown deadlines. Our rule: the Core Build sprint touches exactly three user flows. Authentication. The primary value action. The result or output the user cares about.

⚠️ Common feature creep culprits

Admin dashboards. Notification preferences. Social sharing features. CSV export. Multi-currency support. Dark mode. Advanced filtering. These are all valid eventual features. None of them prove your core value hypothesis, and all of them take longer than you think.
